It was a chilly 4°C on Saturday morning as 17 people gathered at 8am to re-visit Mangere, hoping that the amount of rubbish had reduced.
Last time, with the help of 18 volunteers we were able to collect 630L of rubbish which weighed more than 90kgs. This time, we collected a staggering 1080L of rubbish weighing more than 130kgs. The increased amount of total rubbish collected is most likely beacuse we picked up rubbish for 20 more minutes.
A cleaner Mangere is a distant goal as of now, but we plan to continue to raise awareness about our responsibility as Tangata Tiriti, to maintain and keep the land healthy for the future generation. Reconnect has also communicated this issue to the council and the community boards raising concerns about this situation.
Let’s pick up that rubbish flying around and put it in the bin, where it belongs.
We invite you to join us in our next share the warmth. No skills are required. Only the desire to be the change.
“Shout out to Irma, Daye, Joshua, and Angela! (those missing in the group photo)”
